Winter and Sore throat: Save your kids!

The cold weather has arrived and your kid’s throat is sore?
Is there any relationship between the cold weather and the sore throat?
What should I know, for dealing with it?

Sore throat may be provoked by a cold, but usually it is a virus inflammation! This virus, not easily detected, may cause:

· Sore throat
· Difficulty to swallow
· Swelling on tonsils
· fever
· scratch on throat
It is not something serious and usually these annoying symptoms start to subside after 3 or 4 days, however, if the sore throat persists and the fever does not subside, then it would be advisable to have your child examined by a pedeatrician!

Sore throat is always due to flu?
When it is not originated by a simple flu….could hide a more serious case?
How I will recognise a more serious condition?

Sore throat is an indication of something happening in the organism, however it could hide many and different causes. Per example, the sore throat may be due:

· to flu
· or to a cold
but also:
· to viral pharyngitis
· to streptococcal pharyngitis
· to infectious mononucleosis

As we have already mentioned, when the symptoms do not subside, it would be good to seek the opinion of the pedeatrician! An indication that something is wrong with the child’s health is its temperature!
ATTENTION: In cases where the fever is quite high and it does not subside, the child should be examined by a doctor, so the dangerous scenarios are excluded!

Our “weapons” against the sore throat!
In particular cases when our organism suffers by a disease and more specifically when it is running a higher fever, plenty of liquids are required, so the dehydration of the organism is avoided. The water, the natural juices, the hot drinks (tea, chamomile, milk), and the hot soups as well, are a good way to maintain our organism well hydrated, and to receive a lot of vitamins and nutritional ingredients without having heavy meals and without scratching our already overworked throat.
At the same time, the liquid consumption facilitates the regular elimination of microbes through the excretions of the nose and the throat.
ATTENTION: We prefer all drinks and soups as well to be simply warm, but not hot, because they are going to cause a more serious harm to the throat!

In the drinks for our child, a small quantity of honey may be added, giving a soothing effect, softening the cough, the pain, as well as the scratching feeling on the throat!
Besides, honey offers an anti-microbial action, a fact helping on dealing with the flu virus a lot faster!

ATTENTION: Never administer any medicines to your child without the consent of the attending pedeatrician. Following an examination, it will be decided if the child will receive antibiotics, or other medicines and surely, for their duration! However, if the sore throat is strong, we can give to the child some of those special caramels / pastilles against the sore throat (available in all pharmacies), which they could maintain the throat wet and they will reduce the feeling of dryness and scratching.
